Woman, Life, Freedom ( Documentation of Slogans)
Description
In September 2022, following Mahsa Amini's death in custody, which sparked nationwide protests in Iran, I began this project as my personal response to the ongoing revolution and an effort to provide support for it.
Due to our traditional emphasis on oral culture, documenting events and ideas has not been a historical focus for Eastern societies. As a response, I started creating typographic documentation of the slogans used during the revolution, applying typographic features based on my knowledge of Iranian calligraphy and typography to make the story stand out.
The series is visually inspired by the real slogans and placards produced by protesters, featuring rough letter shapes, simplicity, and typographic hierarchy of the words. Most of the posters in the series are diptychs, capturing the two-part nature of the slogans.
My objective is to raise awareness in the Western societies, leveraging the power of social media to achieve this.
