The Hip Hop Issue
Description
This year the magazine dedicated an entire issue to the 50th Anniversary of hip-hop, which included stories that told us where rap has been, where it is today and where it is going. The visual language of the issue took us back to rap’s inception and was inspired by the low-fi photocopied party fliers used to promote jams from the beginning era of hip-hop. The somewhat-imperfect pairing of two typefaces, Garamond and Souvenir, from that time period added a human element that felt authentic to the era.
