Taiping Market
Description
Invited by the Art Field Nanhai, we designed the signage and extended visuals for Taiping Market, a landmark venue of the land art festival that bears witness to the evolution of the agricultural economy in the Pearl River Delta.
Considering the locality and culture, we sought to find a possibility between its history and future with an updated image. We took traditional Chinese calligraphy signboards as a starting point, drawing inspiration from the title calligraphy of the plaque and using digitalized interpretative approaches to integrate the old and new, try to arouse the public attention.
We construct a grid system based on pixel evolution to explore the boundaries of Chinese character recognition and application possibilities, capturing frames of scales to reconstruct the visual rhythm of the new and old, complex and simple, in the relations among glyphs, semantics, and images. We transformed the exploration into entities embedded in daily life.
