Magnetizdat DDR - Eastgerman tape underground 1979
Description
Artwork for the triple vinyl edition by artists (post-punk, new wave, electronic, avant-garde rock) who recorded music on magnetic tape under the Iron Curtain between 1979 and 1990. The typographic work for the vinyl artwork was done manually with magnetic tape from old cassettes, cut, shaped and glued to make the letters, which were then photographed and assembled in photoshop.
The process and aesthetics of this artwork reflect the magnetic origin of the recording and the DIY resilience of these artists in their editions. Vinyl packaging was printed inside out like a lot of vinyl in underground music, in search of the rude side of the card.
