Identity for Ludowy Theatre

Description

The Ludowy Theatre (literally: People's Theatre, Polish: Teatr Ludowy) is one of the most important contemporary theatres in Krakow. Its history goes back to the 1950s and creation of Nowa Huta – a large social realist district planned as a center of heavy industry.

Since the beginning Ludowy was closely related to Nowa Huta and its local community. Thus, searching for inspiration in the branding process we looked closely both at the visual history of the Theatre and its surroundings, paying special attention to social realist architecture and Ludowy’s characteristic building with a beautiful neon on the front. Basing on the typography of this neon, we designed a typeface “Ludowy”, which became the core element for the Theatre’s visual identity, wayfinding and signage.

“Ludowy” is a variable font, which works great when designing for different play name lengths, different occasions, various media: digital and print, static and dynamic.
