Hanyi yihexianjing

Description

This typeface was not made by auto-tracing. On the contrary, designers exacted the feature of characters(around 100 characters) from Qianlong’s original calligraphy work. Then design team designed the rest of 9000 characters under the promise of visual consistency, as well as his personal writing style, classic, rounded, and “Chinese palaces” flavour. His calligraphy was inspired by Wang Xizhi (303AD -- 361AD), one of China's greatest calligraphers. Faced with complex of type design work with Regular script style, our majority of work was setting the design standard and the consistency elements among characters. Meanwhile, designers need to consider the best font size, visual space between characters, leading, optical adjustments, and typography. Designers also need to control the contrast, legibility, evens of the appearance, white and black balance, which was not easy. The outcome of this project is evident that our method of designing calligraphic typeface was working.
