Design as Disruption
Description
The identity for the University of Washington 2022 Design Show embodies the fundamental ties between order and chaos.
As the culminating event for the class, the Design as Disruption show identity is based in the leading metaphor of disruption, or rather the collective embrace of an unorthodox college experience.
The concept of visualized disruption emerged from the team’s experimentations with cutting an earlier printed version of the show poster into strips and rearranging them into a distorted composition. In addition, this identity was informed by the opportunity to disrupt the physical space of the Jacob Lawrence Gallery—the home to numerous past exhibitions of student work and Senior shows—before it’s remodel.
As the class brings their design thinking into the ever-changing world, this identity acts as a monument to an agreement for the class to continue to be curious and take risks.
