Coppa Stadio

Description

A typeface is never only a collection of exquisitely designed letterforms: but rather a cultural artefact rich in semantic associations and storytelling, as well as a commercial product needing a digital marketing campaign. When producing the revival of Stadio, a forgotten 1975 design by Aldo Novarese, the team at Zetafonts was inspired by its football naming and its playful but muscular aesthetics to create a community event based on the imagery and the spirit of vintage Italian football. Therefore, Coppa Stadio was born: an inclusive graphic design tournament amongst 20 leading Italian graphic design studios, with the idea of giving typography and graphic design the same immediacy and fun that can be had while playing with friends on a football field. A cross-medial experiment that also includes a printed specimen of the typeface in the form of a traditional Italian sports tabloid as well as a football fan scarf.
