Collection Hetzel
Description
French publishing house Hetzel has been prolific until mid-20th century, and particularly recognized for publishing illustrated editions of Jules Verne's books.
In 2017, Paris-based auction house Drouot, presented one of the five existing copies of a unique edition of Verne’s ‘The Mysterious Island’: the book was sold for €52,771.
In 2020, Editions du Chêne and Bureau Berger collaborated to launch a new modernized book collection, building up on the past to revive Verne's work.
Project started by reimagining covers, drawing inspiration from the edition sold in 2017, and collaborating with French artist Shane - whose drawing techniques would match new vision for the collection. Book pages and margins have been preserved to match original design and publishing codes.
First volume, ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas’ was released in 2023, 'Around the World in 80 Days' is scheduled for 2024.
Initial print run of 3,500 copies, book priced €39.
