Inspired by the geometric blocks of the Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscripts Library at Yale University, Stacks is a bold grid based, monospaced font. The bold pixel builds on the concept of history that many collective stories support a broader understanding of our present. The simplicity is deceptive but assertively decorative as a punchy display typeface.
In our increasingly complicated world of swirling ideologies, mythmaking, and misinformations, our responsibility to get into the stacks of our history is ever more important. Strong opinions without credible references are merely hollow rhetoric. The institutions and repositories that hold these collections should be facing a resurgence of attention and attendance.
Libraries should be our social clubs and places to hang out for real time discussion and action planning. While religion sustains communities with moral and social order, our literary institutions and bookstores are itching to become the rage, and the race for information, credible information, diverse stories, and expanded dialogue are in dire need.
Town halls and community talks are powerful for engagement and galvanizing action but our collective knowledges need to expand. Get in those STACKS, read various perspectives past and present, for our today and well-informed tomorrow. Speak loudly but listen loudly as well.
