Repetition Poems
Description
An anthology of four Chinese traditional poems, with eight English translations each, undertaken by professionals and AI. In classical Chinese, each character represents a word of a single syllable, some of them are pictographic and with hundreds of characters.
Translation is an act of restoration and reinvention, reading and interpreting, which has to incorporate the interpreter’s intellect and emotion. It is impossible to have the same interpretations and, therefore, to have the same translations. Any kind of translation is a way of communicating with the original work.
The use of four colors representing each poem, aligned with its content, adds a thematic visual element. The integration of Chinese calligraphy inside contrasts with surface translations. The typeface, "Untitled Poem," uniquely blends Chinese calligraphy with Latin letters, emphasizing ancient writing order.
The goal is to bridge Eastern Asian and Western cultures through two typographic languages.
